My Money Week

Proving that thinking about finance can be fun, the second My Money week takes place in schools across the UK between 28th June and 4th July. Funded by the Department for Education and managed by PFEG (Personal Finance Education Group), Edcoms educational consultancy, the PSHE (Personal Social and Health Education) Association and NCB (National Children’s Bureau), My Money is an annual programme designed to introduce pupils to money management skills and to engage teachers and parents with financial education.

During My Money week, activities taking place include school trips to the supermarket and local grocers to compare prices, having pupils manufacture and sell their own products at Enterprise days, or budgeting for imaginary trips to the World Cup. There are plenty of lesson plans covering all areas of the curriculum available to order and download at www.mymoneyonline.org.

If you are planning to take part in My Money week, don’t forget to check out BrightsideUNIAID’s online resources. The Student Calculator helps sixth formers plan their budget for university and Student Survivor challenges younger pupils to adopt a virtual student and keep its budget and lifestyle in balance! There are also free teaching resources, which are bursting with ideas for fun and inspiring lessons for teachers to download.
