Online community forum brings cutting edge science into the classroom

Teachers should now find it easier than ever to develop creative science teaching resources and to keep up-to-date with scientific advances thanks to an innovative new forum.

Fresh Science, which was developed by BrightsideUNIAID in partnership with the National Science Learning Centre and the Research Councils UK, puts researchers in touch with teachers around the country so they can share their  expertise and support science teaching.

The website includes profiles of projects so teachers can learn about the work of researchers. There is also an interactive library space where classroom materials can be uploaded and shared.

Fresh Science was built following the success of a BrightsideUNIAID pilot project called Scientists in Schools. The programme, which ran from 2008-2009, established an online science community of teachers and science professionals to help promote science in schools.

BrightsideUNIAID Chief Executive Tessa Stone said:

“We are delighted that the outcomes and recommendations from the Scientists in Schools pilot are being taken forward. The Fresh Science project will enable many more researchers to forge links with teachers, and we hope more schools will benefit from the resources we have developed to encourage young people to consider a career in science.”
